Metamersion
— Healing Algorithms

visual identity

sound design: João Van Zelst

2024

Metamersion is a series of public events that seamlessly blend scientific research, cutting-edge technology developments and multimedia art with the overall mission of bettering human health, via digital therapeutics. Anchored in artificial intelligence and other innovative digital technologies, these events redefine the intersection between health, science and art.

Design
For the third edition of Metamersion - healing algorithms, the visual identity was based on the concept that algorithms, which are designed to solve specific problems, could be translated into a form of healing. I drew from the schematic universe of algorithms, creating shapes that represented the process of finding order. These visuals symbolized the healing journey itself — chaotic at first, then evolving into a more harmonious and ordered state, just like the healing process.

Sound design played a crucial role in supporting this identity. The collaboration with a sound researcher was key to the project’s authenticity. Together with a sound designer we incorporated recordings of neuronal activity, creating a rich soundscape that not only enhanced the atmosphere but also connected the concept of healing to a physiological, almost intimate, experience.

The designed materials included a social media presence, an online program, and clear, informative signage and communication on-site.
